Szkola Podstawowa nr 80 im. W. Boguslawskiego is the oldest primary school in Nowa Huta district. It was opened in 1952. Nowa Huta was initially built as a separate and industrial city in opposition to historical Cracow. The housing estates our pupils come from have always been strongly related to the nearby steelworks. Political and economic changes after 1989 had a strong impact on Nowa Huta inhabitants. As a result unemployment in the area is very high and many of our students suffer from social and economic deprivation.  Szkola Podstawowa nr 80 has got 51 teachers working with 650 children aged 6 – 12. We provide our pupils with an extensive study support programme (e.g. computer club, sports club, foreign language classes). Those who have to stay at school longer may stay at our play centre. Our kitchen serves meals in the school canteen.  The school was named after famous Polish dramatist – Wojciech Boguslawski. That is why we pay particular attention to theatre and drama education. Every year each class prepares a play and competes with each other for the main prize. The children are involved in writing the play, preparing posters and stage scenery, and of course - acting. Sometimes our young artists win prizes in theatre competitions outside school. We also try to invite Cracow theatres’ actors, make-up artists and choreographers so that they could give away secrets of their profession to our pupils.
