This section is a copy of the initial application we made to Comenius for our project. The sections listed below will be updated as the project progresses.
You and Me Together in Europe is a project inspired by the Comenius Programme. It is designed to make the students in our schools, from age 3 to age 12, more aware of their own cultural and national identity by comparing themselves with other schools across Europe.
We believe the European dimension gives learning a context which young children can associate with through talking with other youngsters, sharing work, learning each others' songs and comparing their own life experiences with those in partner school across the community. Our main means of communication will be through information technology.
Our project is based on self and mutual respect and we intend this message will go from school into the community to combat the inherent racism and xenophobia that can be seen in many parts of our communities. All of our schools are inclusive and we intend this project to encompass all children, staff and parents regardless of their special needs, disability, social-economic status, religion, ethnicity or gender. We believe the project will also provide an opportunity for the use of ICT in real life contexts and show these important life skills can be used in the real world. By starting to compare self with others, then family, school, communities and countries this project will develop and grow over the coming 3 years.
The project has continued to develop and now includes schools from other areas of the world.
